Construction of an LNG terminal at Omisalj on the northern Adriatic island of Krk will start in mid-2016 and the terminal will start operating in 2019, LNG Croatia CEO Mladen Antunovic announced in a Croatian Radio interview on May the fourth.
"We are thinking of building a high-efficiency cogeneration power plant, possibly of a smaller capacity of 40 megawatts, near the terminal. We are working out technical aspects of such a solution, since that's European practice," Antunovic said.
He said that Croatia would not invest in this project, but would only prepare it using the best world standards to make it attractive to private investors. The terminal's planned capacity is 6 billion cubic metres of gas.
The project company is currently collecting non-binding bids to book capacity at the terminal. The bidding deadline is May 31.
In the first phase of the two-stage open season procedure, potential customers are invited to submit non-binding bids for storage capacity. Based on the received offers and total available capacity, LNG Hrvatska will come up with proposals for the capacity allocation. If satisfied with the capacity allocated, potential customers can proceed to the second step of the open season procedure and submit a binding offer.
After the binding offer is accepted, the respective customer will be able to sign a long term contract with LNG Hrvatska in order to finally book the previously allocated capacity.
LNG Hrvatska, which is currently in the process of obtaining a location permit for the planned terminal, intends to initiate a call for equity in the first half of 2015.
