Today is the opening day for the 3rd ConferenzaGNL and First FieraGNL

The Chinese experience for the liquefied methane industry in Italy and in the Mediterranean

Rome, 10 June 2015 – “China has started to import liquefied methane not so long ago, in 2006, when Europe already had several years of experience, but our growth has been significant. In that year we had only one import terminal, today they are 16”. These are the words of Prof. Wensheng Lin, of the Shangai University, during the press conference launching the 3rd ConferenzaGNL and the First FieraGNL, open since today’s morning at the Church Village Hotel (Via di Torre Rossa 94Aurelio, 09:30-17:30). Prof. Lin is one of the leading Chinese LNG (liquefied natural gas) experts, and a protagonist of the sector in his country in research and in the industrial application of the liquefaction of methane. “We have a significant amount of natural gas reserve, both traditional and non [shale gas], but not enough infrastructures. On a territory as large as the United States, the gas pipelines are 1/100th. Hence the success of the medium and small scale LNG” stated Prof. Lin. The lesson for the Mediterranean area, whose methanisation process is at the centre of  the ConferenzaGNL of this year, is that the favoured option in the coastal and inland areas of North Africa and the Middle East, as well of Sardinia and Corsica is LNG. This also thanks to the economies of scale achieved in China, where more a hundred mini-liquefaction plants are already working, supplying plants and neighbouring cities, thousands of deposits and more than 2000 filling stations for trucks and buses. Prof. Sergio Garriba, President of the Scientific Committee of ConferenzaGNL, discussed the program and the activities planned for the two events: “ConferenzaGNL and the First FieraGNL are taking place this year in a very important moment for the development of the sector supply chain and for the Mediterranean perspectives. In days the consultation of the National LNG Strategy by the Italian Ministry  of Development will take place, as well as the trans position of Directive 94/2014 for the use of fuels alternative to oil. Meanwhile, the new European strategy on the “Energy Union” focuses on LNG for the European energy security.” “LNG is gaining increasing importance in the transport sector in Europe and in North America, both in land and maritime transport, as well as in off grid industrial uses. The reasons are not just economic convenience, but also the smaller environmental impact, compared to traditional fuels. There no solphur or nitrogen compounds, no fine dusts and 20% less CO2 emissions” concluded Garriba. L’esperienza cinese al servizio dell’industria

del metano liquido in Italia e nel Mediterraneo

Roma, 10 giugno 2015 - “La Cina ha iniziato ad importare il metano liquido da poco, nel 2006, quando l’Europa aveva già tanti anni di esperienza, ma la nostra crescita è stata molto significativa. In quell’anno avevamo un solo terminal di importazione, oggi sono 16”. Lo ha detto il Prof. Wensheng Lin, dell’Università di Shangai, durante la conferenza stampa di presentazione della 3rd ConferenzaGNL e Prima FieraGNL che si aprono a Roma stamattina presso The Church Village Hotel (Via di Torre Rossa 94, zona Aurelio, ore 9.30-17.30). Il prof. Lin è uno dei massimi esperti cinesi di GNL (gas naturale liquefatto), protagonista del settore nel suo paese con gli studi e le applicazioni industriali della trasformazione del metano da naturale a liquido. “Abbiamo un ammontare significativo di giacimenti di gas naturale, tradizionali e non (shale gas ndr), ma non abbastanza infrastrutture. Su di un territorio grande quanto gli Stati Uniti, i gasdotti sono 1/100. Di qui il successo del  GNL di media e piccola taglia”. Ha proseguito il Prof. Lin. La lezione per l’area del Mediterraneo, alla cui metanizzazione è dedicata la ConferenzaGNL di quest’anno, è che nelle aree costiere e interne del Nord Africa e del Medio Oriente, ma anche in Sardegna e Corsica, l’opzione GNL è ormai la favorita, grazie anche ai risparmi di scala ottenuti in Cina, dove sono attivi un centinaio di mini liquefatori, al servizio delle industrie e delle città limitrofe, migliaia di depositi e oltre 2000 stazioni di servizio per camion e autobus. Il prof. Sergio Garribba, Presidente del comitato scientifico della ConferenzaGNL, ha illustrato il programma e le attività previste nell’ambito delle due manifestazioni: “La ConferenzaGNL e la Prima FieraGNL cadono quest’anno in un momento molto importante per lo sviluppo delle filiera in Italia e nella proiezione mediterranea. A giorni sarà in consultazione la Strategia nazionale sul GNL elaborata dal Ministero dello sviluppo e verrà in discussione il recepimento della Direttiva 94/2014 per l’utilizzo di combustibili alternativi al petrolio, mentre la nuova strategia europea sulla “Energy Union” mette l’utilizzo del GNL al primo posto per la sicurezza energetica dell’Europa” “Il GNL si sta affermando nel settore dei trasporti in Europa, come nell’America del Nord, siano essi marittimi e terrestri oltre che negli usi industriali off grid, non solo per la convenienza economica ma anche in virtù del molto minore impatto ambientale rispetto ai combustibili tradizionali.
