ABB will provide the electrical systems for propulsion and electricity on the LNG Tallink ferry, which will be built in the Finnish Meyer Turky Shipyard.
The multinational company explained that those systems will allow the ship to minimise the consumption of fuel, supplying the electricity at the same time. The ferry will also use the EMMA energy management system, manufactured by ABB.
“Electrical propulsion is a natural choice for modern LNG ferries, which need efficient and reliable solutions to increase the flexibility of the ship”, commented Heikki Soljama, Managing Director of the Marine and Ports department of the company.
The ferry will be in compliance with the ECA standards for the Baltic, where it will operate between Helsinki and Tallin. It will be delivered at the beginning of 2017, it will be 212 metres long and it will carry up to 2,800 passengers.
