The initiative is part of the Spanish LNGHIVE2 strategy coordinated by Enagás as part of the European CEF mechanism, which will provide funding equal to 20% of the construction cost for approximately 11 million euros. A similar initiative is being finalized for a second bunker vessel which will be dedicated to the port of Barcelona.
The methanisation of Sardinia is moving ahead with increasing momentum, with the construction of local LNG depots to replace the LPG and propane air depots used to supply the city's gas distribution networks. Thanks to the collaboration between the Canadian Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA) and the US energy company REV LNG (Pennsylvania), for the first time ever a ship was refueled with LNG on the American Great Lakes (Lake Ontario ), where the motor vessel Damia Desgagnés, used for the transport of asphalts, docked in the port of Hamilton-Oshawa to be refuelled with LNG before leaving for Detroit.
