Two LNG tankers for Fratelli Cosulich

The Fratelli Cosulich Group of Genoa has doubled in recent days the order for an LNG tanker, the twin of the one ordered last May, at the Chinese shipyard Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore and Engineering. This was written by the specialized site Shipping Italy which collected a statement from the Group's CEO, Timothy Cosulich: “We have exercised the option to purchase a second Lng Bunker Vessel which will be delivered at the beginning of 2024. For the moment we have not made any decision regarding the use (type and / or place) of operation of this second unit ".

As for the first ship, due for delivery in the summer of 2023, Timothy Cosulich added that "we have not yet made any decisions on the first unit. The only thing that is certain is that she will be employed in European waters. For the rest, everything is still being defined (both for the first and for the second unit) ”. Her employment in Italy, more precisely in the Upper Tyrrhenian Sea, is defined as “a possibility but it is not certain”. The ships will have approximately 5,300 deadweight tons and will be able to transport over 8,000 cubic meters of LNG and 500 cubic meters of Mgo (marine gasoil).

The propulsion and power generation systems for marine use will be provided by Wartsila. The order includes a complete package of engineering, design and supply of equipment for the LNG handling system. In addition to the loading and unloading system, the gas boil-off management equipment (BOG) will also be provided. Wärtsilä will deliver the equipment starting in 2022.
