The South Tyrolean transport and logistics company FERCAM has signed an agreement with the IVECO dealer for South Tyrol for the purchase of two first liquefied natural gas (LNG) trailers with a purchase option for additional 10 tractors, as soon as it is operating the new LNG refuelling station at Vipiteno.

"LNG vehicles require a higher initial investment", commented Johann-Friedrich Harder, Head of the Fercam branch in Bolzano and the company's fleet, "but the advantages in terms of sustainability are considerable, as with LNG-powered engines particulate emissions are reduced to almost zero, even thin, and there is a significant decrease also for NOx emissions ".

FERCAM, with  main office in Bolzano, already uses LNG trucks for its Spanish branch. However, the company has specified that it intends to use all the new tractors on the Brenner axis, along the Verona - Munich route. Given the slope of the route, a 460 hp engine power was indispensable, a requisite that IVECO is able to meet from March 2018 with the new NP Stralis 460.

"It has always been our commitment to carry out our services in a sustainable approach, also respecting the requests of many of our customers in this sense. In Spain, for some time now we have in the park vehicles powered by liquid natural gas with very satisfactory results; we are aware of the responsibility that a company has in offering environmentally friendly transport services and respecting environmental sustainability ", added Hannes Baumgartner Managing Director of Fercam.

"It is very gratifying for us to be able to count the largest South Tyrolean logistics operator among our customers," says Alex Gasser of IVECO Alto Adige. "It is a state-of-the-art company, and like many other transport operators of our territory in their investments in vehicles show great sensitivity for environmental issues".
