Transafe and Titan LNG signed a long-term crew safety training contract in preparation of Titan’s first LNG ship-to-ship bunkering operations.

Titan LNG’s FlexFueler, Europe’s first LNG bunkering pontoon, will be operational by the end of this year, the company said in a statement.

Ronald van Selm, COO of Titan LNG commented,“In order to engrain operational safety in all our nautical crew, we have selected Transafe as our partner for this extensive LNG bunkering safety-training programme.”

Cristiaan Heuvelman, managing director of Transafe added that with the growth of LNG as a marine fuel the demand for crew training has also risen.

The training includes simulations in the brand-new Simwave facility and practical training at the Falck LNG training center in Rotterdam.

Igor Jansen, director of AMS, the FlexFueler operator and crew provider, added that all crew members of the FlexFueler will receive extensive training to comply with the International Association of Ports and Harbors regulation.

Titan LNG's FlexFueler1 pontoon, whose construction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018, will initially be located in Amsterdam and used primarily for refueling operations in port waters and inland waterways of small ships in the Antwerp-Rotterdam-Amsterdam triangle.

FlexFueler1 will be equipped with two 380 m3 LNG tanks, while other two additional tanks could be installed, depending on  the market demand. The Titan LNG pontoon will be able to supply LNG up to a speed of 600 m3 / hr; among its initial customers there will be the LNG-powered barges Greenstream and Green Rhine.
