Third tank for the Knutsen LNG tanker. It will serve LNG small scale warehouse in Ravenna (Edison)

The South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, who is currently building the small/medium scale LNG tanker on behalf of the Norwegian shipping company Knutsen, has recently mounted the third LNG tank on board the ship which will have a total capacity of 30,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas.

Hyundai Mipo, a unit of the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, awarded the tender for the construction of the ship in 2018 through a contract worth approximately USD 76.7 million.

The LNG tanker will be one of the first small / medium size units used for the transport of LNG in the world, to have the double-lobe type C load tanks.

The vessel, 180 meters long and 28.4 meters wide, equipped with a dual-fuel propulsion (LNG/diesel) supplied by Finnish Wärtsilä and a boiling gas reuse system (BOG), should be delivered to Knutsen in the first quarter of 2021.

Subsequently, the LNG tanker will be hired over a period of 12 years by the Italian energy company Edison to serve the small-scale storage and bunkering deposit of LNG currently under construction in the Italian port of Ravenna.

Edison and the Italo-Romanian Oil Company (PIR Group) are investing approximately 112 million dollars in the terminal with a storage capacity of 20,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, with the aim of supplying LNG to the naval transport and heavy road transportation sectors.
