The Swedish company Scania, manufacturer of industrial vehicles (lorries, road tractors, buses and engines) owned for 45.66% by the Volkswagen group, for 13% by MAN and for the rest distributed among various shareholders, set up, first in the world, a long-distance LNG bus.

The bus will be presented at the next IAA in Hannover, the international trade fair for commercial vehicles that will take place from 20 to 27 September. In addition to the bus, Scania will present on this occasion its entire range of new concept vehicles for long distances, for the construction sector and for transport in urban areas, powered by alternative fuels.

The LNG bus has an autonomy of about 1,000 kilometers and can also be powered by liquefied biogas, which many European countries are starting to produce and which reduces carbon emissions by 90%.

"While there are several options for carbon-sensitive urban and suburban bus operators, there have been fewer alternatives in the long-distance travel market," said Karin Rådström, Head of Buses and Coaches at Scania. "Considering that LNG is becoming increasingly available across Europe, as well as in many other parts of the world, this is a viable alternative." Scania's initiative burns on time the expected arrival of LNG buses for regional transport commissioned by the TPER transport company from Bologna to the Italian Industry Bus with an European tender awarded last January. The presentation of TPER buses fuelled by LNG is expected within the year.
