On December 5, the City Council of Ravenna approved the Resolution concerning the permit procedure to build the project called "Construction of a new LNG coastal deposit proposed by the company Petrolifera Italo Rumena (PIR Group) in the municipality of Ravenna ".
The resolution proposal presented by the Councilor for Private Construction Federica Del Conte, was approved after a broad discussion thanks to the votes of the majority groups and a large part of the opposition (with some abstention, and only one vote against expressed by Ravenna in Comune), giving the substantial free way of the Municipality to the plant. The approval followed also the favourable vote of the Territorial Sea Council obtained in the previous days.
The deposit, which will initially have a storage capacity of 10,000 cubic meters through a single tank, in an area of 23 thousand square meters on the quay next to the Teodora power plant (although in a second stage it is expected to double the capacity), starting from 2020 it should supply LNG both ships and fuel distributors onshore.
The new infrastructure will require an investment of close to 70 million euros.
