The first extra-urban LNG buses ordered by TPER, Emilia-Romagna Passenger Transport, produced by Scania, arrived in Bologna, runner-up in the European tender launched in 2016 and 2017 after the renunciation by the Italian IIA (Italian Industry Bus) ranked first.

For the entry into service of the new vehicles, a ceremony will take place in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna on December 6th, in the presence of local institutions as well as Giuseppina Gualtieri, President and CEO of TPER and Franco Fenoglio, President and CEO of Italscania .

The final decision was taken by the TPER Board of Directors last January 22 for a total of forty-six new methane liquid buses between extra-urban and urban (read previous articles HERE 1–2 Oct 17, 2017 e).

The first order of 15 intercity vehicles had to be provided by Scania this year and constitute an absolute novelty in the field of interurban public transport, at least in Italy. The second lot, related to thirty-one vehicles, still awarded to IIA, is part of the LNG-based Citymood bus range and should be delivered by the spring of 2020. The total investment is 11.5 million Euros.

As reported by Staffetta Quotidiana, on the way to Bologna the buses refueled LNG on 21 November at the Delta Energy road plant, near the Trento Nord motorway exit on the A22 del Brennero motorway, supplied by Maxcom Petroli, a historic petroleum company that since 1988 has been selling products for the net, extra-network, marine and aviation markets, which recently also entered the LNG market.
