On Wednesday 3 October the first LNG fuelling station for lorries of Umbria was inaugurated, the plant is also equipped with CNG filling station for cars. The plant is located near Magione (PG) and it has been realised at an already existing plant owned by SCAT, a fuel distribution firm based in Reggio Emilia
The plant is equipped with a cryogenic tank with a modified cryogenic tank with a 80 cubic meters capacity; in order to comply with environmental and landscape rules prescribed by competent authorities, as well as the Magione Municipality, the tank has a wider and lower shape. The plant has been realised by Ham Italia while Liquigas is the LNG supplier.
As stated by SCAT President Andrea Salsi, the Magione plant is the first one realised in Umbria as well the first one owned by SCAT; this effort testifies the increasing importance of the role of the CNG fuelling service for lorries within the CNG fuelling services offered by SCAT. The Reggio Emilia’s company already count 20 CNG distribution plants over a network of 70. In addition to this, two more LNG SCAT’s plants, which are situated respectively in Emilia Romagna and Lombardia, are undergoing authorisation process.
Franco Fenoglio, Italscania’s President, also took part at the inauguration ceremony underling his company’s commitment to reduce the environmental impact through technological innovation with an annual investments of about 7% on a total of 12 billions of Euro turnover in 2017. The brand new Scania 410 hp LNG fuelled tractor was involved in a refuelling demonstration to show the company’s concrete results in this field. Fenoglio recalled the fact that the Italian lorries fleet is the oldest in Europe (13 years against 7 years of the European average) and he also urged for a government’s effort in this direction, considering that Euro 1, 2 and 3 lorries’ engine are still circulating.
Aldo Bernardini from Ham Italia reminded the leading role of Ham in spreading LNG technologies in Italy and Spain, in which it realised about the half of the currently running distribution plants and he added that over 1.200 LNG fuelled lorries circulate on the National roads (1000 registered in Italy and 200 abroad) as the purchase cards managed by Ham assert.
The new LNG distribution plant, TotalErg branded, is situated near Magion’s exit of the highway 6 Bettolle-Perugia, in Frà Filippo Longo road, near Bacanella.
