A new LNG bunkering project has been launched by the new company Probunkers at Posidonia 2018, the biennial International Shipping Exhibition held in Athens from 4 to 8 of June which is organised under the auspices of the Greek shipping community, as the Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy, the Union of Greek Shipowners and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping.
Based in Piraeus, Greece, the newly-formed company will design, build and operate a fleet of eco-friendly LNG bunkering vessels to brace the ever-changing needs of global shipping. The company plans to be fully operational in 2022.
The project, which involves a total investment of USD 343 million based on a ten-year plan, encompasses planning, financing, implementation, operations and sales.
Probunkers, which is advised by DNV GL, has selected seven trade ports and bunkering hubs for the deployment of its LNG bunkering vessels. The ports (ARA, Gibraltar, Houston, Fujahirah, Singapore, Hong Kong, Busan) already provide storage capacity and a 37 percent share of global bunker demand.
