The lack of infrastructure for the direct supply of small scale LNG from large deposits in the Mediterranean puts the growth of the new industrial chain at risk. In the basin, the greatest risk concerns maritime transport, while in Italy land use is also at risk, with supplies being forced into the Ventimiglia corridor only by road tankers.
This alarm diminishes the value of the great progress made by the new industrial chain of direct uses in transport at a global, European and Italian level, as noted and described in the conclusions drawn by the Scientific Committee of ConferenzaGNL from the work of the fifth International Conference on the direct uses of LNG held in Naples on 15 and 16 May last (PDF).
The document, released today, concludes with a series of recommendations to the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Italian national government to rapidly provide regulatory certainty to companies in the sector engaged in major investments. The involvement and collaboration with all the countries of the Mediterranean shores is also fundamental.
