Clean Energy Fuels Corp., the US leader in the distribution of small scale LNG, has announced an agreement to supply approximately 300,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (78 million US gallons) to World Fuel Services, Inc., which specializes in refueling. maritime, for the supply of two new container ships of the Pasha Hawaii shipping group.
Container ships George III and Janet Marie will enter service by 2021 and will commute between the port of Long Beach (Los Angeles) and Hawaii. Construction of the two vessels was supported by Clean Energy's Cryogenics division, which will also perform tank conditioning and the first LNG bunkering at Keppel AmFELS shipyard in Brownsville, Texas. These are the first LNG ships to serve the Pacific islands and among the first to make a regular call on the west coast of the United States.
The LNG that will power Pasha Hawaii's container ships will come from the Clean Energy plant in Boron, California. Clean Energy is expanding the Boron LNG plant by adding a production train that increases production by 50 percent. For the delivery of LNG, World Fuel Services has entered into a contract with West Coast Clean Fuels, LLC for the transport and loading of LNG into ships. West Coast Clean Fuels manages the supply chain for low-carbon fuels, such as LNG, to shipping operators on the west coast of the United States.
