The Singapore shipping company AET Tankers revealed that its two new LNG dual-fuel sister Aframaxes undertook their first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in Port of Rotterdam, earlier in April.

According to the company, the 113,000 dwt oil and chemical tankers Eagle Brasilia and Eagle Bintulu conducted their first call to a port in Europe as they make their journey and tour of duty towards the Atlantic Basin. The supply of LNG ships will be discussed at the next fifth International Conference - "The Small Scale LNG Use, Euro-Mediterranean Conference & Expo" - 15-16 May in Naples.

“This first European port call for Eagle Brasilia and Eagle Bintulu, coupled with the vessel’s exciting first LNG bunkering, is a momentous success for AET in driving LNG as a cleaner burning and viable fuel for the shipping industry and in turn, spurring other shipping companies to work towards achieving IMO’s minimum 2050 emissions reduction target,” Ron Wood, Global Director, Mid-Size Tankers Crude Shipping, AET, said.

Each vessel was loaded with 1,040 cubic metres of LNG, filling about 60% of the vessel’s total receiving capacity (1,700 cm.), allowing them a considerable trade mileage of about 3,600 nautical miles running on LNG fuel.

The Eagle Brasilia and Eagle Bintulu were inaugurated in October 2018 at the Samsung Heavy Industry (SHI) shipyard in Geoje, South Korea (see ConferenzaGNL article - October 18, 2018 HERE). Both units are employed on long-term charter by Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (Shell) for operations in the Atlantic Basin.

AET Tankers is a wholly owned by MISC Berhad (MISC), a subsidiary of the national petroleum company of Malaysia Petronas.
