At the beginning of the second week of September, the 6,000 cubic meter LNG bunker ship Optimus was successfully launched and christened at the shipyard of the Dutch shipbuilding company Damen Group.
The Optimus, built on behalf of the Elenger Marine company, will be formally delivered to the client company during the first quarter of 2021 when - according to Pasi Näkki, CEO of Elenger Marine, “it will begin to refuel a wide range of LNG-powered vessels, including two new generation Tallink fast ferries ".
The new LNG bunkering vessel will load LNG at the eastern Baltic Sea region terminals and will operate mainly in the Gulf of Finland area. The ship is able to carry out bunkering operations both in port and at sea, at the designated anchor points.
The main features of the Optimus vessel are a Finnish-Swedish Ice Class 1, length 100 m and draft 5 m, two LNG tanks of type C of 3,000 cubic meters each (maximum pressure 4.5 bar), dual fuel propulsion, maximum speed 13.4 knots and an LNG bunkering speed up to 1,000 cubic meters / hour.
