After a first order concluded at the beginning of the year of the new MAN 51/60DF engines for a LNG RoPax ferry from the Jiangsu Jingling shipyard for the German TT-Line (Volkswagen group), MAN Energy Solutions has been awarded another order from the shipyard Finnish Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) for a similar supply in favor of Estonian Tallink Grupp.
The new MAN 51 / 60DF engine line is able to reduce carbon emissions by 50% with the primary use of LNG while Diesel will be used as a reserve. The ship has two 500 m3 type C LNG tanks.
The contract with Jiangsu Jingling concerns a ferry 230 m long, 31 m wide, 39 m high and a maximum draft of 6.7 m. It will be able to accommodate 800 passengers and 66 crew members as well as 200 trucks and trailers. The ferry will operate on TT-Line's Baltic Sea route network in Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Sweden.
The assignment with the RMC concerns another larger ferry, called "MyStar", of 50,000 gross tons and 212 meters in length. It will have a capacity of 2,800 passengers and will serve on the Tallinn-Helsinki route in the Baltic Sea. The delivery of the two ships is expected in 2022.
Lex Nijsen, MAN Energy Solutions' four-stroke maritime sales Manager said: "The Finnish market has always been very innovative and we are very pleased to be back with this order. This is the second order for a car and passenger ferry (RoPax) received by RMC in the last year and therefore we are very pleased this time the choice fell on our 51/60DF engines which have shown excellent results on the test bench, highlighting their characteristic advantages as load behaviour and pure gas start and starting with pure gas , which ultimately led Tallink Grupp to choose MAN.
Nijsen added: "This is the second agreement we entered into for the 51 / 60DF engines in a short period in the Baltic area, after the German company TT-Line placed the order for a RoPax ferry at the beginning of this year. With this new job we are more confident for the future of our MAN 51/60DF engines on the Finnish market."
