LNG in Florida also for AET oil tankers

Global oil transport operator AET, of the Malaysian logistics group MISC, has started refueling its LNG-powered ships on the US Atlantic coast with a first refueling outside the port of Port Canaveral in Florida.

The refueling on 9 October was the Aframax class oil tanker Pacific Ruby with 600 tons of LNG and was carried out by the Q-LNG 4000 tanker barge operated by Shell in the area.

The loading operation lasted three hours while the entire refueling operation with docking and separation of the two ships lasted a total of nine hours. The 113,000-ton Pacific Ruby is on its way from Houston, in the Gulf of Mexico, to Rotterdam.

AET has invested in 11 LNG-powered ships, three Aframax already operational in the Atlantic but also one Aframax which will enter into operation in the Pacific within the year. Two other LNG tankers operate in the North Sea and the Barents Sea. The company has five more LNG-powered maximum tonnage tankers (VLCCs) on order that will enter service in 2022 and 2023.

The Q LNG 4000 tanker barge has already carried out similar operations in the Port Canaveral area for the oil tankers of the Russian company Sovcomflot.
