Finland’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) filling station serving heavy-duty vehicles and also enabling the distribution of biogas was opened on August 29, 2016, at Helsinki’s Vuosaari Harbor. Gasum has applied for “Connecting Europe Facility” financing support to explore the opportunities to construct an LNG/LCNG refuelling station network and the deployment of four pilot stations intended specifically for heavy duty vehicles in Helsinki, Turku, Vantaa and Jyväskylä. Gasum Oy recently announced that it plans to open the second filling station  near to the Port of Turku, Finland, in late September 2016, and in Jyväskylä and Vantaa during 2017. The EU support, granted at €2.65 million, accounts for 50% of the total investment. Expected to cost around €5.3 million in total, the project contributes to the TEN-T Core Network, for the implementation of the objectives of Directive 2014/94/EU in Finland and the development of the market for alternative propulsion systems in road transport. The infrastructure being constructed will also enable the use of liquefied biogas in heavy duty transport in the future. Over the next 10 years, Gasum plans to develop 35 new filling stations.
