Singapore-based Triyards, through its unit, Strategic Marine, secured a contract with the Dutch ferry operator Rederij Doeksen to build two LNG-powered aluminium catamarans.
According to the company’s statement issued on Sunday, the order is valued at €44 million (approximately US$50.1 million). The two RoPax ferries have been designed by BMT Nigel Gee from Southampton in the United Kingdom.
The ferries will feature a single-fuel LNG propulsion system and will have the capacity to carry 600 passengers and 64 cars.
The construction of the two vessels is scheduled to begin during summer 2016 while the delivery is set for the second quarter in 2018, Triyards said.
