South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to build 10 LNG-fuelled super-tankers (VLCC class) for an undisclosed European customer.
If the agreement for the construction of the ten 300,000-ton dual-fuel ships will be confirmed (DSME expects to finalize the contract in the first quarter of 2021), the value of the agreement should be around US $ 1 billion, with each tanker estimated at around $ 100 million.
Moreover, last week, DSME reported that it received a $ 260 million order from oil company Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) for three very large crude carriers (VLCC) with dual-fuel engines (low sulphur fuel oil or LNG) including the option for three additional vessels,
The vessels are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2023.
