DHL Supply Chain has just announced the start-up of its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks. Set up with Scania and PKM Logistics, this fleet will be dedicated to urban and peri-urban logistics.

This LNG fleet will serve the major customers of DHL Supply Chain. Among the first clients are Metro for which the carrier will deliver deliveries of brewery and groceries to Paris and the small crown.

"Our aim is to offer our customers a new solution to optimize transport at all levels, both ecological and economic," said Walter Bessis, Vice President of Transport & LLP of DHL Supply Chain France. "So it was not only a question of adopting the latest generations of clean tractors, but also of working on innovative trailer models. The objective was to meet the constraints of urban environments and traffic on the narrow streets of city centers, while optimizing loading capacity to reduce the number of journeys and maximize productivity. "

Associated for many years with PKM Logistics to develop its trailers, DHL Supply Chain has developed an innovative double-deck trailer whose configuration can accommodate 66% more pallets. With a maximum of 55 pallets transported instead of 33, the trailer makes it possible to limit the number of journeys to be made and to optimize productivity.

The new generation of trailer is also equipped with photovoltaic panels, capturing solar energy to store it in batteries. A system that allows for example to operate the rag without resorting to the heat engine, making it possible both to reduce the noise nuisance and the fuel consumption.
