Containerships shipping company (CMA CGM Group) successfully carried out its first bunkering of LNG simultaneous to the loading and unloading operations (SIMOPS) on its M/S Containerships Nord ship in the port of Rotterdam, the first vessel to perform this operation in Europe simultaneously with ship-to-ship bunkering (STS).
To ensure fast and safe STS Simops bunkering, Containerships worked closely with Shell, its bunker supplier, with the Port of Rotterdam and the Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals BV (RST) terminal, which allowed the ship to be refuelled with approximately 200 tons of LNG.
Thanks to SIMOPS, the ship's permanence in the port can be significantly reduced and operational delays are avoided. With this reduction in transit times the CMA CGM group is able to offer its customers a highly reliable and fast connection between Northern Europe and the Baltic countries.
The dual-fuel containership M/S Containerships Nord has a capacity of around 1,400 TEUs and started operating in January 2019.
