Swedish shipping company Erik Thun said its joint venture with Norwegian shipowner Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Skipsrederi AS (KGJS, one of the largest independent cement carrier owner in the world), the norwegian company JT Cement AS, ordered a new LNG-fueled cement carrier at the Ferus Smit Shipyard.
JT Cement AS, which owns a fleet of seven smaller specialized pneumatic cement carriers, recently got another owner, as NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers acquired a 25% ownership interest in the company, joining KGJ Cement Holdings (25%) and Erik Thun AB (50%).
Regarding the newly ordered vessel, the project will be handled by MF Shipping Group with support from KGJS.
The vessel 110 meters long will be an improved version of its sister motor vessels M/V Greenland (delivered to JT Cement on december 2015) and M/V Ireland (delivered on June 2016 by the Ferus Smit Westerbroek Yard), but with a somewhat larger cargo carrying capacity at 8.000 DWT.
In addition, the LNG tank capacity will be increased to 200 cubic meters, improving the steaming time on LNG. The LNG fuel system for the third LNG-fueled cement carrier will be supplied by Cryonorm Systems.
Delivery of the newbuild is scheduled for July of 2019.
