In Germany, from 1 January 2019 up to the end of 2020, electric trucks as well as those powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) with a capacity of over 7.5 tonnes of total gross weight will enjoy substantial reductions in motorway tolls.

According to the new measures announced last summer by Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer, heavy vehicles will only have to bear the cost components relating to motorway infrastructure and engine sound levels, saving a minimum of 9.3 up a maximum of 18.7 cents per kilometer travelled, depending on weight class.

These savings will be added to the incentives approved in June 2018, which provide 12,000 Euros for LNG trucks and 8,000 euros for CNG trucks, increasing the financial benefits for logistics operators.

Pierre Lahutte, President Iveco, who first invested in gas vehicles and has a full range of vehicles from Daily to Eurocargo up to Stralis LNG fuelled, firmly believes that "For the central position that Germany occupies in European logistics, the decisions taken by the Government will really accelerate the spread of alternative natural gas tractors in the Continent and the process of energy transition nowadays underway.

In this regard, Lahutte stressed that Iveco recently participated in the inauguration of a new LNG refuelling station on the Brenner pass, right along the route that leads from Italy to Germany.
