The first bunker vessel in Russia supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) is expected to be built by the end of 2019, said a representative of Krylov State Research Centre (KSRC), the ship designer.
The KSRC, established in 1894, is a Russian leading naval architecture and shipbuilding research and development institute specialist, which operates as a federal state-owned unitary enterprise.
Anton Lutskevich speaking at the 11th All-Russian Forum "Current State and Prospects of the Russian Ship Bunkering Market" in St. Petersburg said that the ship is under construction at Onega Shipyard to the Ministry of Industry and Trade department project.
The bunker vessel will be equipped with LNG storage tanks (LNG containers) of capacity of 160 cbm. In addition, the Krylov Center developed design concept of a combo ship for gas fuel supply to shipping lines vessels, which can be operated both as a small LNG carrier and a floating refuelling unit.
Established in 1894, the Krylov Centre has gained unique expertise in development of naval ships, commercial vessels and offshore structures. Its responsibilities cover the full scope of ship qualities including seaworthiness, strength, powering, acoustics, electromagnetic signatures, nuclear & radiation safety, definition of ship concepts meeting the combination of the above requirements.
