ESL Shipping, part of Aspo Plc, informed that its new eco-friendly dry cargo vessel, Viikki, was successfully launched at the Jinling shipyard in Nanjing, China, on August 31st.

Viikki is the first LNG-powered handyzise bulk carrier in the world and is a forerunner in energy efficiency and eco-friendliness. The 160-meter vessel of 26,000 dwt powered by liquefied natural gas will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions per ton of cargo transported by more than 50 percent in comparison to present generation of vessels.

The vessels, designed in Finland, will start operating during the first half of 2018 and will be bunkered by Skangas fron the new LNG-terminal in Tornio, on the Baltic Sea.
