Spanish energy companies Gas Natural Fenosa and Petronieves have signed a contract to build a compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) refueling facility at the Petronieves fuel station in the Zona Franca district of Barcelona. This will be the first LNG station for trucks in the city, expected to be operational by year-end.

The natural gas filling station will be located in an area very close to the city’s port and Ronda del Litoral (B10), which will allow it to serve a large number of vehicles, including fleet vehicles from both companies.

In fact, Petronieves aims to transform 25 of its diesel trucks to natural gas in the coming years, which will reduce CO2 emissions by 4,300 tons, NOx by 234 tons and PM10 by 9.5 tons.

At the moment, there are 42 public natural gas stations in Spain, of which a total of 25 belonging to Gas Natural Fenosa, and twenty more stations are expected to open in the coming months.
